Recognition and Rewards

Performance based bonuses reward your ability to build sales and deliver profits. In addition, the bonus program features two ways to earn bonus that may not be available at other restaurant companies.

  • Miss a bonus in the first quarter because results fell a little short? No Problemo! Managers have an opportunity to earn any lost bonuses if they are able to make up the sales and/or profit shortfall by the end of the year.
  • Exceed both sales and profits targets, while delivering 60 cents on the dollar of those additional sales to the bottom line…Magnifico! Managers have an opportunity to earn additional uncapped bonus compensation because 10% of controllable profit in excess of budget can be split among the management team.

Over the past three years, the Company has completely redesigned and implemented new training programs that affect team members up and down the chain of command. We believe that on going development can be the spring board to opportunity, regardless of what career track you take.

Ongoing Management Development

We believe that your development is a responsibility that is shared by both you and your supervisor. The company provides a variety of formal and informal training programs but each manager is expected to take initiative to develop his or her skills. New manager training is typically 8-weeks and provides a comprehensive curriculum utilizing both hands-on training and classroom instruction. During this introductory period managers gain a working knowledge of key operation systems.

After initial management training is completed, you will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of training programs that build competencies including guest recovery, floor management, employee selection, performance management, wage and hour compliance, financial management and many others. In addition, the company maintains an extensive library of training materials available to all managers, which can be checked out at any time. A variety of learning mediums is available, including audio, video, books, and self study training guides. Management development is further supported by a mandatory certification of all managers in the areas of kitchen, dining room, cantina management and back office administration.

Lastly, high potential performers are identified and assessed regularly and provided with a development plan to accelerate their advancement opportunities. This individualized plan is developed with both the manager and his or her supervisor and includes specific work assignments, seminars, and other training programs to help individuals leverage their strengths and address their developmental needs.

Standard Management Track

The standard career path for a new manager begins with Manager-in-Training and progresses upwards to successively higher levels of responsibility and compensation. The speed of progression will be faster for managers who demonstrate strong leadership skills and the ability to meet company expectations for execution and results. Managers in this career track typically have a minimum of two years supervisory experience in a full-service restaurant setting.

Fast Management Track

Based on the Company’s growth projections and current bench strength in specific geographical areas, Real Mex Restaurants will occasionally hire more experienced managers. Fast Track Managers will have a successful track record in overseeing a high volume, full-service restaurant. Additionally, the candidates will have already developed the skills required to manage a $2 - $4 million restaurant. These managers are expected to hit the ground running, learn to run our restaurants, and deliver results. In doing so, they may start at a higher compensation level and progress more quickly through the ranks.

Culinary Career Track

Kitchen operations in our restaurants are a strength that we have turned into a competitive advantage. With an emphasis on freshly made products, which required more complex procedures, we need culinary professionals to provide supervision that ensures standards for quality, safety, and execution are consistently met. Chefs/KMs may have an opportunity to cross train in the front of the house and work towards becoming a General Manager.
